About us
Our Story
Nestled in the hills of Chianti Classico, halfway between Siena and Florence, the Le Filigare estate takes its name from the hill on which it stands. Here, among vineyards and olive groves, history and nature intertwine in a unique landscape.
The property includes two historic hamlets: Le Filigare, in the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle, and Le Macine, in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti. Le Filigare, founded in the11th century and once called Fiaccole di Sopra, still retains the charm of ancient traditions, when flashlights lit up the village during the feasts of the patron saint.
Over the centuries, the estate has welcomed distinguished guests, including Pope Pius IX, who stayed here for a vacation at the invitation of Grand Duke Leopold of Tuscany.
Since the late 1970s, the estate has been owned by the Cassetti Burchi family, historic Florentine silversmiths and jewelers. Carlo Burchi has devoted 30 years to restoring the estate, giving it back its charm and transforming it into aprestigious business, recognized internationally for the quality of its products.
Today, Alessandro Cassetti Burchi, together with his wife Deborah and son Lorenzo, carries on this tradition of excellence, respecting family roots and the history of the place. Since 2016, Le Filigare has embarked on a path of organic production, focusing on sustainability and care for the environment, to offer wines and oil that embody the authentic essence of the land.
Chianti Classico in its full extent
In the heart of Chianti Classico, between San Donato in Poggio and Castellina in Chianti, our estate covers 60 hectares, 13 of which are dedicated to organically cultivated vineyards and olive groves. The privileged location ensures optimal sun exposure and, thanks to the diversity of soils and microclimates, creates ideal conditions for superior wines.
Nature has shaped a unique territory: the hilly soils, rich in alberese skeleton in the higher areas and clay and limestone marl in the lower part, ensure excellent water retention. A dense forested area protects the vineyards and olive groves from the cold northern winds. Located between 450 and 550 meters above sea level, the vineyards enjoy a dry climate, mitigated by sea breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea, visible in the presence of maritime pines. This ideal microclimate favors perfect ripening, while temperature swings between day and night intensify the complexity and aromatic richness of the grapes.
Vineyards and Olive groves
Under the expert guidance of our agronomists, Dr. Alessandro Arretini and Dr. Gianluca Grassi, the estate’s 13 hectares of vineyards are cultivated with passion and care, dedicated mainly to Sangiovese, the authentic symbol of Chianti Classico. Complementary varietals such as Canaiolo and Colorino enrich our wines with the notes of tradition, while for our IGTs we also grow international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, to expand the excellence of production.
The estate is also home to 10 hectares of olive groves, with about 2100 trees including Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo, from which we obtain a fine organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The adoption of organic has marked an important step in our philosophy, leading us to increasingly value quality, sustainability and naturalness.
The Winery
our production process combines care, precision and respect for the terroir. Under the supervision of cellarer Andrea Biondi, the grapes are carefully selected, passing through a linear destemmer and roller sorting table to ensure only the best bunches. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, preserving freshness and aromatic intensity of the fruit. Malolactic fermentation takes place in small concrete vats, also controlled, for delicate and precise transformation.
Aging, mainly in large barrels, allows our Sangiovese to best express its integrity, enhancing the elegant and distinctive characteristics that make our wines unique.
Enologist
Dr. Alberto Antonini, among the world’s most respected oenologists and recognized by Decanter as one of the top five, personally oversees the selection of the woods each year. With great care he searches for the perfect balance, allowing our unique terroir to fully express itself and enhancing every nuance of aroma and character of our wines.
